Terms of Use
Effective date: 2026-06-16
Last updated: 2026-06-16
1. Agreement to these Terms
By installing, accessing, or using the AI FactScan browser extension or website ("AI FactScan," "Extension," "we," "our," or "us"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not install or use AI FactScan.
If you use AI FactScan on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use AI FactScan. You are responsible for complying with laws and policies that apply to your use of the Extension.
3. What AI FactScan does
AI FactScan helps users inspect the quality of citation sources in AI-generated answers. It extracts citation links and provides source-quality signals, including A-F source grades, invalid-source signals, self-reference signals, and selected resolver checks for DOI, arXiv, and PubMed links.
AI FactScan is not a fact-checking service. It does not determine whether an AI-generated claim is true, complete, or properly supported by the cited material. It only provides source-quality signals to help you decide what to review more carefully.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for how you interpret and use AI FactScan results. You agree not to use AI FactScan as a substitute for professional judgment, legal advice, medical advice, financial advice, academic review, or primary-source reading.
You agree not to:
- use AI FactScan in violation of any applicable law or third-party platform terms;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract non-public source code from the Extension;
- circumvent license verification, browser-installation limits, technical protection measures, or access controls;
- share, resell, sublicense, or publicly post a Supporter license key beyond what your plan permits;
- misrepresent AI FactScan grades as a final determination that a claim is true or false.
5. Free and Supporter access
AI FactScan may offer free features and paid Supporter features. Free limits, Supporter benefits, pricing, and feature availability may change over time.
A Supporter license may be used with up to four browser installations unless otherwise stated at purchase. Chrome, Edge, and separate browser profiles may be counted as separate browser installations because browser extension storage is separate across those environments.
You are responsible for keeping your license key confidential. We may suspend or revoke license access if a key is shared, abused, obtained fraudulently, or used to bypass these Terms.
6. Payments, subscriptions, and refunds
Payments are processed by LemonSqueezy, which acts as the merchant of record. By purchasing a Supporter license or subscription, you also agree to LemonSqueezy's terms and policies. AI FactScan does not receive or store your payment card details.
Monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled through the LemonSqueezy customer portal before the renewal date. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Refund requests are handled by LemonSqueezy according to their policies and applicable law.
7. Data and privacy
Your use of AI FactScan is also governed by our Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy explains local processing, optional API lookups, feedback submissions, license verification, and third-party services.
AI FactScan is designed to minimize data transmission. However, certain features may make limited external requests, including resolver checks, domain-only source lookups, license validation, payment processing, and explicit feedback submissions.
8. Third-party platforms and services
AI FactScan may operate on or alongside third-party platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, browsers, resolver services, public datasets, and LemonSqueezy. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and policies.
AI FactScan is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or responsible for any third-party AI platform, browser vendor, source database, resolver service, payment processor, or referenced dataset unless expressly stated.
If a third-party platform changes its interface, policies, permissions, or technical behavior, AI FactScan functionality may be limited or unavailable. We may work to restore compatibility but cannot guarantee timing or outcome.
9. Intellectual property
AI FactScan, its name, logo, website, Extension software, interface, and source-quality database structure are owned by AI FactScan or its licensors. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Extension in accordance with these Terms.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of AI FactScan intellectual property to you.
10. Feedback
If you submit feedback, suggested grades, evidence links, or notes, you grant us permission to review, store, and use that feedback to improve source-quality data, product safety, and service reliability. Feedback does not automatically change any public source rating.
11. Service changes
We may modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue AI FactScan or any feature at any time. We may also update source-quality rules, grading methods, data sources, free limits, paid features, and license policies.
12. Disclaimers
AI FACTSCAN IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR AVAILABILITY.
We do not warrant that AI FactScan will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every AI platform or browser version. Source grades are informational signals based on available source data and rules at the time of analysis. They may not capture every context, update, or exception, and should be used together with your own review of the cited source.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AI FactScan and its operators shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages; loss of data; loss of profits; business interruption; or damages arising from reliance on AI-generated content, citation grades, third-party platforms, payment processors, or external datasets.
In all cases, our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid for AI FactScan in the 12 months preceding the claim.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AI FactScan from claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your use of the Extension, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law, or your infringement of third-party rights.
15. Termination
You may stop using AI FactScan at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, abuse the service, share license keys improperly, attempt to bypass controls, or create security or operational risk.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Before initiating formal proceedings, contact us and give us 30 days to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.
Any disputes that cannot be resolved informally shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Taiwan, except where applicable consumer protection law requires otherwise.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of AI FactScan after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
